Grief support

Grief is complicated and after any life changing loss, it can be one of the most difficult things people will experience.

At Aurora yoga, we came together to partner, collaborate and create a platform as a resource to share stories, experiences and to provide helpful tools for you.

The importance of grief support

While grief is personal and no two losses are the same, grief is also universal and everyone will come to know loss and grief. It’s part of the human experience and it’s impossible to avoid. We came together to partner, collaborate and create a platform as a resource to share stories, experiences and to provide helpful tools for you.

We live in a society that is uncomfortable with grief and sadly, those who are grieving, often feel unsupported, misunderstood, isolated and alone. Here at Aurora, we believe this is unacceptable and we are committed to changing the conversations around loss and grief. There are so many people who don’t know how to feel or how to manage their grief, and most people don’t know how to support those they love when grieving.

We believe grief isn’t just an emotional experience but it’s also a mental and physical one. We also know grief isn’t just about a bereavement, it can be a loss of any kind. From a relationship or a career, to health & independence. There’s healing through connection and by connecting our shared stories, experiences and resources with short practices, we hope you will find something that resonates and ultimately helps you navigate this journey.

Body

Grief can often reside in our physical bodies. Through our virtual yoga classes and online resources, we  help our members to support their physical bodies.

Soul

The first thing we notice in loss can be our emotions. We help our community members to build an awareness of their own many and often complicated feelings.

Book of the Month

‘I didn’t know anger, envy, frustration, depression, anxiety and shame were common elements of grief…..I had no idea that grief was actively impacting my body and my brain in ways that made maintaining my health, my career, and my relationships challenging.’

I could literally quote every line from every page of this book, but I’d love for you all to explore it yourself. I first heard of Marisa when she was on the formidable ‘We can do hard things,’ podcast with Glennon Doyle. When I heard her speak about giving yourself permission, seeking safety and how the power of our grief is linked to the depth of our love it changed my life. This book is honest, vulnerable, heart wrenching, and sweet. I read it very soon after my Dad died, and it’s the book I recommend to anyone grieving.
